Finding authentic cattle egret feather is vital for spiritualists to maintain the integrity of their spells.

1. The Symbol of Absolute Purity
The brilliant white color of the Lekeleke feather represents  holiness and purity.
Clarity: They are believed to help “wash” the spiritual perception of a person, removing “darkness” or confusion from their path.

2. One of the “Four Sacred Feathers”
In Ifá initiation rites, the Lekeleke feather is one of the four essential feathers used to crown or stabilize an initiate’s head (Ori). The others are:

Agbe (Blue Turaco) – for honor.
Aluko (Wood Turaco) – for prestige.
Ikodide (African Grey Parrot tail) – for transition and power.
Lekeleke – for peace, longevity, and success.

3. “The Bird that Never Gets Dirty”
There is a common Yoruba prayer/incantation: “Lekeleke gba mi ni kan nkan” (Lekeleke, give me your whiteness/purity).

Spiritual Protection: It is believed that just as the egret stays white even while walking in mud or following cattle, the possessor of its feather will remain untainted by the “mud” of the world (evils, charms, or scandals).
Victory over Enemies: Using the feather in rituals is said to make a person “invisible” to the attacks of enemies because their character is light and pure.

4. Attraction and Prosperity
The Lekeleke is seen as a bird of good fortune because it is always found where there is “plenty” (following cattle).

Wealth Rituals: Its feathers are frequently used in Awure (good luck preparations) to attract financial blessings and social elevation.
Leadership: Carrying or wearing the feather signifies that the person is chosen for leadership or has reached a state of spiritual “coolness”.

5. Divine Messenger
The Cattle Egret is considered a messenger between the physical world (Aye) and the spiritual realm (Orun). Its feathers are often used to “flick” or sprinkle consecrated water during blessings to ensure the prayers reach the ears of the Orishas.
